Drawing of Montpelier, Linley Wood, Talke, Staffordshire, 1789

Montpelier (Linley Wood)

The above drawing is believed to be of the house called Montpelier which James Caldwell bought in 1789 and rebuilt into his new house that he called Linley Hall.  The surrounding estate was called Linley Wood.  The drawing itself was found in a book belonging to James Caldwell 'Botanical Arrangement of all the Vegetables Naturally Growing in Great Britain' by William Withering, 1776.
