Will of John Crompton of Chorley, Lancaster, England
I John Crompton of Chorley in the County Palatine of Lancaster do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following To wit after my debts agreements and funeral harges paid fulfilled and discharged First I give and bequeath to my Wife Margaret Crompton and to my Eldest Son Abraham Crompton forty pounds apiece also I give and bequeath to my seven Children John Crompton Samuel Crompton Edward Crompton Hannah Crompton Deborah Crompton Margaret Crompton and Mary Crompton and any Child or Children of mine that shall be born in due time after my decease the Sum of Two thousand pounds to be divided equally amongst them share and share alike to be raised after my decease towards their Education Maintenance and Portions out of my Chorley Estate by virtue of and according to the true intent and meaning of one writing contracted between my late Father Mr Abraham Crompton and myself dated 29th January 1722 to empower me to charge Two thousand pounds whether it be more or less upon my Chorley Estate for Education Maintenance and Portions for my younger Children and as to all that my Tenement at Stand of Pilkington under the Lord of Derby which I purchased of my late Sister Mary Heslop called the Old Hall with the houses and lands there unto belonging as also the small Rents and Reversions of two Leases to wit of one Lease to John Ingham of a tenement in Burkshaw in Euxton in the County of Lancaster aforesaid and also of one other Lease to James Lee of a tenement in Euxton aforesaid and also all the rest and residue of my Goods Chattels Bank Stock Bonds Notes and Personal Estate I give and bequeath all and every of them with all their appurtenances to my aforesaid seven Children John Crompton Samuel Crompton Edward Crompton Hannah Crompton Deborah Crompton Margaret Crompton and Mary Crompton and any other Child or Children of mine that shall be born in due time after my decease to be divided equally amongst them share and share alike and I do hereby constitute and appoint my Wife Margaret Crompton my Brother Abraham Crompton also my Son Abraham Crompton and my Son John Crompton to be Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and annulling all Wills and Testaments by me formerly made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set mine Hand and Seal this twenty fourth day of March in the year of our Lord Seventeen Hundred and forty nine

This Will was proved at London before the Right Worshipful John Bettesworth Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted on the Twelfth day of June in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and fifty by the Oaths of Margaret Crompton Widow the Relict of the Deceased and Abraham Crompton and John Crompton Sons of the said Deceased three of the Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said Deceased being first sworn only to administer to wit the said Margaret Crompton and Abraham Crompton were sworn by Commission and the said John Crompton before the Worshipful Robert Chapman Doctor of Laws Surrogate to the said Commissary Power reserved of making the like Grant to Abraham Crompton Brother of the said Deceased and the other Executor when he shall apply for the same
