Born: 26 October 1882 at Sheerness in Kent.   He was killed in WWI, 30 December 1915.
Son of: Commander Matthew James Harrison RN and Lucy Wedgwood (1846-1919).
Brother of: 
1. Geoffrey Richard Harrison (1876-1882).
2.Lt Comd Thomas Edmund Harrison(1879-1914), who married Maud Winifred Harrison (nee Godman. 1881-1962).
3 Ann Dorothea Gooch (nee Harrison, 1877-1950), known as Nancy, who married Maj John Sherlock Gooch (1865-1929) known as Jack.
4.Lucy Ursula Houghton(nee Harrison, 1884-1931), who married Arthur Case Houghton (1866-1936).

George joined the navy as a career and on 15 July 1896  be became a cadet at the Royal Navy Cadet training establishment HMS Britannia, Ryde, Isle of Wight.

He became a midshipman 15 February 1898 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1903 and Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1911. 

On 11 April 1912 he joined the armoured cruiser H.M.S. Natal as Torpedo Officer.

George was killed on 30th December 1915 while serving on HMS Natal. During the afternoon of the 30th December 1915, HMS Natal, under the command of Captain Eric Back, blew up at anchor with a great loss of life.  It is not known was caused the explosion.

421 crew and civilian visitors died including women and children. Children had been invited on board to watch a filmshow. Amongst the visitors were also nursing sisters.  George Harrison amongst them, 400 of the crew survived.

HMS Natal was a ‘Warrior Class’ cruiser of 13550 tons.  She was launched in 1905 and had an interesting history before the First World War.  In 1914 she joined the Second Cruiser Squadron, which by 1915 was based in the Cromarty Firth, in the north of Scotland.

George is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
