Miniature Portrait of Lady Gower, nee Elizabeth Fazakerley

Painted by the artist Gervase Spencer (1715?-1763)

Lady Gower, nee Elizabeth Fazakerley, wearing a black dress with white puff sleeves and lace collar, black hat trimmed with white plume and drop pearl.  Signed with monogram on obverse and dated 1745 and signed in full on the reverse and dated, set in gilt-metal mount with inscribed copper reverse.  Oval, 1 3/4 inches high.  Elizabeth, daughter of Nicholas Fazakerley, married Sir Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Marquess of Stafford, shortly before this miniature was taken in December 1744. Sadly she died of small pox 19 May 1746.  Sir Granville, a politician married secondly Lady Louisa Egerton in 1748 and thirdly Lady Susanna Stewart in 1768.
