Miniature Portrait of an unknown Lady

Painted by the artist Gervase Spencer (1715?-1763)
Signed on the obverse GS 1747

An Officer and a Lady; he wearing scarlet coatee with blue facings, gold aiguillette, white waistcoat with gold trim, frilled chemise and stock, his hair powdered and worn en queue; she wearing white dress adorned with blue bow, white fichu and frilled white bonnet with matching blue bow neck tie.  She signed on the obverse and dated G.S/ 1747, both in fishskin cases. Oval, 34mm, 43mm.  Bonhams 23 May 2007, Lot 38.
