Miniature Portrait of an unknown Lady

A Lady, wearing black, fur-trimmed open robe, fastened with a jewelled brooch, over yellow underdress with standing lace collar, a red and white 'Turkish-style' turban trimmed with large pearl and black feather over her brown hair, drop pearl earrings and a string of pearls at her neck.  enamel, fully signed and dated on the counter-enamel, G.Spencer. pinx./ 1748, gold frame, the obverse with engraved wavy border.  Oval, 44mm. (1 3/4ins.) high.  This full signature and date on the counter-enamel is relatively rare.  Bonhams 23 Nov 2005, Lot 32.
