Miniature Portrait of an Unknown Gentleman

Painted by Gervase Spencer (1715?-1763)

Artist and miniature portrait painter who was based in London.

Bonhams 4 March 2003, Lot 91.  A young Gentleman, wearing bright blue coat and matching waistcoat, white lace cravat and black ribbon, his powdered hair worn en queue enamel, original gold frame with reeded border oval, 40mm. (1 1/2in.) high.  Signed GS and the date looks like 1758.
