Signed on the front GS 1760

A Gentleman, wearing pale blue coat with white facings and gold piping, white waistcoat with gold piping, frilled chemise, black solitaire and black bicorn with gold trim, his hair powdered.  Signed on the obverse with initials and dated G.S/ 1760, gold frame with brooch-clasp attachment.  Oval, 34mm high.  Bonhams 21 Nov 2007, Lot 162.

Could this be William Durrant as mentined in 'Portraits in Norfolk Houses' by Prince Frederick Duleep Singh, Vol II, page 271, Scottow Hall. Body and face turned towards the sinister, black eyes full, grey wig tied behind. Dress: Lavender coat, gold edged collar and lapel turned back, gold buttons, open, showing lavender waistcoat, white stock and lace ruffle. Age 35. Signed GS 1760.
