Portrait of Mary Emma, Lady Heath nee Marsh
Of Anstie Grange, Holmwood, Surrey, England. Wife of Admiral Sir Leopold George Heath.
Mary mentions in her diary sitting for a portrait in late March and early April 1856. She notes the artist but her hand writing is difficult to read. The artist's name appears to be Brewer or Breher or Breker? This would probably be Julian C Brewer of whom we know very little but he seems to have been active from about 1830 to 1880. In 1856, Mary would have been 30 years old. On the back is the framer's trade label which reads : F&T Blackwell, Carvers, Guilders, Printsellers, Stationers & Printers, 59 Union Street, Stonehouse [Plymouth].
