The name of the sitter in this portrait has sadly been lost with time but the canvas has been signed clearly by the artist John Theodore Heins and dated 1723.  This is a very early work of Heins.  We can assume that he was resident in Norfolk at this time and so can assume that the lady was from the Norfolk area as almost all of his portraits are of Norfolk families.
