Anne Marsh Caldwell wrote diaries extensively throughout her life. These still exist but are not yet published. See notes. |
The Orphan Sisters was published by T. B. Peterson and Bros., Philadelphia, 1850. This may be a different name for one of Anne's other books.
There is some debate as to who wrote The Nevilles of Garretstown. The most likely appears to have been the Rev. Mortimer O’Sullivan (c.1793-1859) but another possible author could have been Dr Charles James Lever (1807-1872). Certainly Anne wrote the preface to the 1860 edition. I do not know how Anne came to be involved in this publication. If anyone on the internet can add more information I would be very pleased to hear from you.
'Chronicles of Dartmoor', published in 1866 is usually noted as by Anne Marsh Caldwell but it would appear that it was written by Mrs. Sara Anna Marsh (died 1877), widow of the Rev. W. Marsh, sometime vicar of Ashburton, co. Devon. The front cover notes the author as Mrs Marsh but does not state by the auther of Two Old Men's Tales, Emilia Wyndham, etc, as do most of Anne Marsh Caldwell's novels. Sara Anna Marsh wrote a number of stories most of which were not published. Her other work that was published was 'Maidenhood'.
Another possible article is 'Cultivation of the Maritime Pine'. By the author of 'Two Old Men's Tales, &c.' in The True Briton: A Home Friend and Evening Companion Vol.I, London: Wertheim and Macintosh, 1851, pages 221-223.
Another possibly story is 'The Old Shepherd'. By the author of 'Two Old Men's Tales. This story appeared in several US newspapers during November and December 1847.
