Vice Admiral Alexander Robinson Palmer RN OBE (1879-1958)

Alexander was born 23 May 1879 and died 1958.

Son of: Joseph Mansergh Palmer (1850-1924) and Georgina Berlinda Palmer (nee Hartford, 1846-1940).

Brother of:

  1. Miss Georgina Wilhelmina Palmer (27 Aug 1880 to 19??).
  2. Commander Edwin Mansergh Palmer RN OBE (1882-1963).
  3. Major Richard Lodge Palmer DSO MC, Royal Artillery, (1883-1956?) who married Iris Irma Leveson-Gower (1899-1944).
  4. Violet Charlotte Mary Heath-Caldwell (nee Palmer, 1885-1971) who married Rev Capt Cuthbert Helsham Heath-Caldwell (1889-1979).
  5. Irving Montgomery Palmer RN OBE (1889-19??).

Alexander married: Charlotte Helen Burke of Armagh County in 1906.

Alexander and Charlotte had issue:

  1. Commander Joseph Mansergh Palmer RN (1912-1999), who married Barbara Jean ??? (1925-1913).
  2. Shiela De Quincey (nee Palmer).

Alexander Robinson Palmer was born on the 23rd May 1879, he had a long and distinguished Naval career, joining at the age of 14 in 1893, he achieved the rank of Lieutenant on 15th January 1900, Commander on 31st December 1911 and Captain from 31st December 1917.

During the First World War he was appointed Captain of the second class protected cruiser Juno on the 21st May 1916.

Following the War he was appointed to the rank of Rear-Admiral on the 25th March 1929 and placed on the retired list the following day. He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on the 11th of February 1934. He offered his services from 1937 but his role seems to have been limited. He died in 1958.

His medals were sold sold by Lawrence Fine Art Auctioneers Ltd, Crewkerne, 19 May 2022.  Presumably sold by his grandson.
